Michael’s Thriller Masks Up for Sale (Photos)
A collection of three facial appliances from the “Werecat” transformation scene worn during the filming of “Michael Jackson’s Thriller” plus a Michael Jackson lifecast are being auctioned RIGHT NOW.
From the auction description,
In “The Making of Thriller,” you can see Rick Baker, Tim Lawrence (who played one of the featured zombies) and Mark Wilson creating this lifecast of Michael. Tim is the one monitoring a stopwatch with one hand while applying alginate with the other. Three of these foam pieces were applied directly to Michael Jackson’s face and represent one of each of the three stages of transformation plus an unused foam latex cast of the final, third stage makeup with the flashings still attached, as it came out of the mold.
Stage one is the lightest color, stage two is darker and stage three is the darkest. If you look at the back of the thirrd stage Werecat makeup you can see MJ’s hair still stuck in the glue. In the beginning of the video before the transformation you can see Jackson has a thin beard running from his sideburns down the side of his jaw.
This fine, wavy black hair is what you see stuck to the back of the appliance. When Lawrence was not in Zombie makeup, he could assist Baker in the application and removal of the Werecat makeups. They were kept after removal from Michael Jackson and remain exactly as they were nearly thirty years ago. These are truly one-of-a-kind historic pieces. There are no others. They have been carefully preserved and are in very good condition. The foam latex remains soft and supple and they retain their accurate color.
