In contrast to all rumours, Michael Jackson really received the 'Artist Of The Millennium Award' at the MTV VMA 2002! Specualtions said that he had misunderstood Britney Spears at the Video Music Awards. She congratulated him for his 44th birthday and announced him as artist of the millenium. But MTV really has "created this award to honour the artist", according to the official Home Page MTV.DE.

On the other hand the Home Page MTV.COM, which is also an official MTV Home Page, stated: "No Artist of the Millennium-Award for Michael Jackson".

So what's up... Michael Jackson did appear at the VMA of US music channel MTV in New York on his 44th birthday. The in no way self-proclamed "King of Pop" obviously did not appear unexpectedly, which should be prooven by the fast appearance of a birthday cake on the stage of the Radio City Music Hall.

Moreover, Michael was called the 'Artist Of The Millennium' by Britney Spears, and thus not only inspiring for her, but for everybody present in the Music Hall, even for all people worldwide.

Britney: "I am thrilled to be here with you in New York on this special night. And it's even more special because it just so happens to be someone special's birthday. "This is someone who has inspired me, and just about everybody in this room, and the world. I consider him the Artist of the Millennium. He's a true innovator who pioneered the use of music video, broke down countless barriers, and sold more records than any other artist along the way. So Happy Birthday, my friend the King of Pop."

The 'Artist Of The Millennium Award', which had been especially created for the King of Pop, had the shape of a clef, and was brought onto the stage together with the birthday cake, which was also decorated with candy clefs. It was given to Michael by Britney. Michael thanked her accordingly, which was not a misunderstanding, but a matter of course and good manners.

Michael: "God bless you. I love you too. Thank you very much Britney Spears - you look wonderful. "When I was a little boy in Indiana, if someone had told me that one day I would be getting, as a musician, the Artist of the Millennium Award, I wouldn't have believed it. It's really amazing, I can't believe it. Thank you really so very much, but there's a couple of people I have to thank who made this possible.

"I really want to thank God who makes all things possible, my mother, Joseph Jackson and Katherine Jackson, Trudy Green, Howard Kaufman, the genius of John McClain, John Branca, Berry Gordy, Diana Ross, Gladys Knight. Quincy Jones, I love you. David Blaine, your magic is real and I believe in you. And I'd like to thank... I think James Brown is a genius. And all the fans around the world, I love you, God bless you. Thank you."

So Michael has definately received an award, which also was obviously meant for him. Just one question remains unanswered: Did MTV or did Britney Spears create this award? But still, it is a fact that Michael did receive it.
