(Washington D.C.) Internationally syndicated morning show Ted Kelly's World Party has come forward to create The Artist of the Millennium' Award on behalf of the Michael Jackson fan base around the world and throughout the
U.S. who were outraged by the actions following the August 29th broadcast of the MTV Video Music Award where Jackson was presented a tiered cake for his 44th birthday by Britney Spears I addition to an award in the shape of a treble clef on a black base, which was represented at mtv.com as the
unprecedented Artist of The Millennium Award. The following morning MTV issued statements that no such award ever existed and Jackson was confused.
Friday morning (August 30) mtv.com clearly stated that Britney Spears presented Michael with the unprecedented Artist of the Millennium Award.
Later that morning the story broke at drudgereport.com and was also announced on UPOP
(Universal POP XM29) that MTV was denying any such award existed and Michael may have been confused by Britney's personal choice in words when describing him as Artist of the Millennium. Of course the original reference to the award and its name was also removed from MTV.com, said Kelly, whose
global pop music morning show is broadcast around the world via the WorldSpace Satellite Radio network and across America on XM Satellite radio from the U.S. studios of WorldSpace in Washington, D.C.
No other artist since the inception of Rock n? Roll in the mid
1950?s has had the global reach and mass multi-generational appeal that crosses all boundaries of color and nationality. Regardless of the U.S. media portrayal of Michael Jackson, his fame, appeal and celebrity continue to grow throughout the world. Like MTV is a global music video channel, we broadcast global pop music around the world every morning. The reaction we have received warranted someone taking action. MTV was wrong and we will right that wrong, added Kelly.
Kelly launched his campaign over the weekend and
announced plans to his national audience on Monday September 2nd to include the names of global Michael
Jackson fans in the presentation certificate that will accompany the Artist of the Millennium Award. The award design will be determined by the artist chosen for this once in a lifetime commission.
