Buon giorno a tutti, vi invito a firmare una lettera collettiva contro il programma "Michael Jackson's autopsy" che verrà trasmesso il 13, 14, 16 e 17 gennaio e nel quale un dottore opererà la dissezione del corpo di Michael, che verrà riprodotto nei minimi dettagli, per ripercorrere le cause del suo decesso sulla base del referto autoptico e riferire anche delle sue malattie, come la vitiligine.
Vi prego fermiamo questo orrore!

Essendo Venerdì 31 dicembre il termine per l'invio delle lettere, abbiamo pensato di provvedere a firmare la lettera con i nominativi di tutti i membri del gruppo, eccetto ovviamente coloro che esprimeranno il loro dissenso.
Di seguito, il testo della lettera in inglese ed in italiano:

Noi, sostenitori di Michael Jackson, vi scriviamo riguardo al programma “Michael Jackson’s autopsy” che verrà trasmesso il prossimo 13, 14, 16 e 17 Gennaio.
Quali sostenitori del signor Jackson, ma anche come telespettatori e, speriamo, stimati clienti intendiamo manifestare il nostro disappunto e la nostra disapprovazione per questo programma.
La notizia della vostra intenzione di inscenare l’esame autoptico del signor Jackson a scopo di intrattenimento ci ha lasciato sbigottiti e costernati. Crediamo fermamente che questo “spettacolo” non abbia alcun tipo di scopo scientifico od educativo, infatti non riusciamo a vedere alcun obiettivo in questo programma se non quello di ottenere un elevato indice d’ascolto sfruttando la curiosità del pubblico nei confronti dei personaggi famosi.
Capiamo perfettamente che ascolti e marketing vanno di pari passo , e che il tutto si basa su un “gioco psicologico”, ma tutto ciò dovrebbe trovare un limite nella morale. Crediamo fermamente ci sia un limite invalicabile tra quello che è giusto e quello che è moralmente sbagliato ed inaccettabile.
Se il vostro scopo fosse stato davvero quello di chiarire le cause della morte del signor Jackson, avreste potuto trovare altri metodi, sicuramente più dignitosi. Discovery Channel ha a sua disposizione una varietà di esperti e specialisti in medicina, tuttavia, avete deciso non di esaminare il referto autoptico, spiegarne il significato al pubblico ed analizzare le circostanze della morte del signor Jackson, cosa che avrebbe soddisfatto la sete d’informazione del pubblico, ma avete invece deciso di inscenare un’autopsia su un corpo sintetico con le caratteristiche e i tratti del signor Jackson, un essere umano, con la stessa indifferenza con la quale un insegnante di biologia spiega ai suoi studenti come sezionare una rana nel laboratorio scolastico.
Tenete bene a mente che il signor Jackson non era solo una superstar dedita al vostro intrattenimento, e non era nemmeno il personaggio immaginario del vostro film preferito. In primo luogo, e soprattutto, era un essere umano che è stato ucciso 18 mesi fa. Era un padre, che ha lasciato tre figli piccoli che stanno ancora imparando a vivere senza di lui ed ha dei familiari che stanno ancora soffrendo per la sua morte, senza peraltro la riservatezza di cui avrebbero immenso bisogno.
Immaginate per un momento l’impatto che un programma di questo tipo potrebbe avere su questi tre orfani e su coloro che hanno amato quest’uomo; volete veramente infliggere un simile dolore a questi bambini che già soffrono, su questi genitori, fratelli, nipoti e amici che non hanno fatto assolutamente niente per meritare un’ingiustizia simile? Provate ad immaginare che queste persone siano i vostri figli o familiari, desiderereste questo per loro? Non pensate che il signor Jackson meriti il rispetto e la dignità che è dovuta ad ogni essere umano?
Ci teniamo a ricordarvi che la morte del signor Jackson è stata classificata come omicidio, e che c’è un processo in corso contro il Dottor Conrad Murray che è accusato di esserne il responsabile
Le circostanze della sua morte saranno investigate e stabilite in un tribunale. A nostro parere, un programma televisivo non è il contesto adatto per discutere questo caso così delicato, soprattutto in un momento così cruciale. Tenete inoltre in considerazione che il vostro programma, se non sufficientemente accurato o se dovesse diffondere ulteriori dicerie sulla figura del signor Jackson, potrebbe compromettere le possibilità per lui e la sua famiglia di ottenere la giustizia che meritano. Vi preghiamo perciò di trattare questa delicata situazione come vorreste che fosse trattata se riguardasse un vostro caro, e se toccasse a voi dover assistere a un programma come questo.
Discovery Channel è sempre stato considerato un canale interessante e con un livello di programmazione intellettualmente elevato, che ha un naturale modo di definire l'intelletto della persona che decide di seguirne i programmi. Crediamo infatti che la qualità dei programmi che vengono trasmessi si rifletta direttamente sulla tipologia di spettatore che richiamano.
Le nostre aspettative sono sempre state elevate, ed a ragione, ma con tutto rispetto, ci permettiamo di dire che purtroppo questa è l’eccezione che non possiamo rispettare né accettare.
Ci è francamente inspiegabile che la vostra compagnia intenda mandare in onda un tale macabro programma, giocando sulla morbosità di alcuni spettatori, allo solo scopo di ottenere dati di ascolto più elevati. Tuttavia, siamo convinti che non aspiriate a mettervi al livello dei tabloid e di altri media di scarsa qualità.
Speriamo vivamente che non intendiate veramente cadere così in basso e che riconsidererete la decisione di mandare in onda questo programma.
Riteniamo che questa sia fuor di dubbio la soluzione più saggia e onorevole sia per la famiglia del signor Jackson sia per la vostra compagnia, per non parlare degli spettatori che hanno sempre seguito le vostre trasmissioni per il loro contenuto informativo ed educativo.
Se questo programma andrà in onda, sarà un chiaro messaggio che la moralità e la qualità di Discovery Channel ha ceduto il passo al sensazionalismo ed alla logica del profitto, con grave sottovalutazione del sentimento di umanità che dovrebbe invece guidare un programma di livello.
In questa deplorevole eventualità, non ci rimarrà altra scelta che rimuovere il vostro canale dal nostro abbonamento satellitare . Potrebbe essere di vostro interessere sapere che i sostenitori di questa lettera hanno già provveduto a contattare i propri gestori del servizio televisivo satellitare, per ottenere informazioni sulla procedura da effettuare per la rimozione il vostro canale.
Speriamo vivamente che Discovery Channel farà l’unica scelta giusta, cioè fermare la messa in onda di questa oscenità.

Dear Sir or Madam,
We, Michael Jackson supporters, write today pertaining to the program “Michael Jackson’s Autopsy” which is set to be aired on January 13th, 14th, 16th, 17th 2011.
As Mr. Jackson’s supporters as well as viewers and hopefully valued customers, we wish to display our great disappointment and dissension for this upcoming program. We on a whole were appalled and in complete dismay when it came to our attention that you intend to re-enact Mr. Jackson’s post-mortem autopsy examination for entertainment purposes. It is firmly believed that this “show” doesn’t serve any scientific or educational purpose, in actuality we can’t see any true value within this program other than sensationalism and ratings feeding off the public’s curiosity and desire to feel above a prominent public figure in society. We understand ratings and marketing go hand in hand and is a psychological game but when it comes to moral ground of right and wrong there needs to be a line.
If your purpose and desire was to shed some light on the causes of Mr. Jackson’s death, there are many other more upstanding routes to be taken. The Discovery Channel has a bevy of known medical experts and specialists that are routinely called in for your different programs over the years. Yet you chose not to examine the autopsy, explain to the public what it means and how certain things can or can not be in this homicide which would still throw a bone to the public’s thirst for information about the famous and in turn staged an autopsy on a synthetic corpse with the features of Mr. Jackson, a human being in the same nonchalant manner one’s 9th grade biology teacher shows their students how to dissect a frog on a split open plastic learning apparatus.
Please consider that Mr. Jackson, was not just a superstar for your entertainment pleasure, nor was he a fictional character in your favorite movie. First and foremost he was a human being who has been murdered 18 months ago. He was a father, who left behind three young children still adjusting to facing a life without him and has a family who is still mourning him with out any of the true closure they need.
Imagine for a moment the impact that a program of this nature may have on these three orphans and all those who love this man? Do you really wish to inflict such a pain on his already suffering children, parents ,siblings, nieces, nephews and friends who did nothing to deserve such an injustice but have to endure it anyway? Is this something you would wish for your own children and family to sustain? Don’t you think that Mr. Jackson deserves the respect and dignity that is due to every other human being?
Please also keep in mind that Mr. Jackson’s death has been ruled a homicide, at the hands of another and that there is an ongoing trial just starting against Dr. Conrad Murray who is charged with being responsible for Mr. Jackson’s death.
The circumstances of his death are going to be investigated and established in a court of law, a television show is not the right place to discuss this case and such a delicate matter. Take in consideration that your program may hurt Mr. Jackson’s chances of getting any proper justice if not accurate or spreads more waves of rumors through the public’s psyche. Please treat this situation as you would hope others to treat it if this was your own loved one and you part of those who survived them. Being the ones left behind is the hardest part about a loved one dying.
The Discovery Channel has always been considered a station of interesting, intellectual programming that had a natural way of defining the intellect of the person who responds that they enjoy it above other programs of choice. It truly is a direct reflection on the type of viewer a person is, as it should be. Our expectations have always been high with good reason and with respect, unfortunately this is the exception we can not respect or accept. It is unfathomable that your company is going to air such a gruesome show, playing on people’s morbid interest for higher ratings. However, we are convinced that you don’t aspire to join the ranks of tabloids and daily media fodder.
It is our sincere hope that you are not truly willing to stoop this insatiable low and there will be a reconsideration in the airing of this program. This is sure to be the wisest and most honorable choice for both the family of Mr. Jackson and your company, not to mention the viewers that used to watch your programs because of their informative and educational content, holding it in high regard in their thirst for knowledge.
If this program goes on to air, it will send a clear message that the morality and the quality of The Discovery Channel has left its place in solid television programming for sensationalism and the logic of profit with gross disregard for the humanity you so freely use like a puppet. In this regrettable case, we will have no other choice but to cancel your channel from our television lineup despite any other programming you may offer. You may be interested in knowing that supporters of this letter from around the world have already contacted their cable and dish providers to ask how to go about removing your station without disturbing the rest of their viewing packages.
We sincerely hope The Discovery Channel will make the right choice and stop this obscenity.
