Jacko's phone thriller

MICHAEL Jackson fanatic Barbara Edwards was woken by a thriller of a phone-call at 4am.

The mum from Rochdale received a surprise call in the middle of the night from her son Jason who is working in Las Vegas.

And Jason shocked his mum by putting pop star Jacko on the line.

Jason, who has been working as a salesman for a gambling machine and games company in the States for the past 12 years, bumped into the moonwalking megastar during a night out in Vegas.

After getting his autograph, Jason, 35, asked the king of pop if he would have a quick chat with his mum Barbara back in England. And when the hit singer said, "Yes," Jason immediately handed over his mobile. The chart-topping star spoke to the rather bleary-eyed Barbara for a couple of minutes before he passed the phone back to Jason and was ushered away by his minders.

Barbara, of Castleton, Rochdale, said: "When the phone went at that time I thought that it would be bad news. And when Jason said he had Michael Jackson with him I thought it was a wind up at first, but it was definitely his voice.

"He asked me how I was and where I was speaking from. I said Rochdale in England and it was 4am in the morning. He said it was 9pm in Vegas. I told him my daughter Keely and I have been big fans since the Jackson Five.

"He laughed and thanked me for our support. He said he loved all his British fans. I could not believe I was actually speaking to one of the biggest pop stars ever. He is my hero."

But when the call went on a bit too long, cheeky Jason told the star to cut it short. Housewife Barbara, 52, said: "I heard Jason shout in the background: 'Hey Michael, come on, my phone bill is going through the roof here!' Apparently all the minders collapsed with laughter, but I don't think Jacko understood what he meant. He's probably never seen a phone bill in his life."

Jason managed to grab a quick autograph on the back of a business card for sister Keely before the performer disappeared into another. Barbara said: "How Jason got so close to Michael Jackson I'll never know. All his pals in Castleton think it was a wind up, but I have no doubt it was Jacko!"
